Emergency First Response Courses in Primary and Secondary First Aid
We offer first aid courses under the banner of the Emergency First Response (EFR) organisation. These courses are designed to cater for the needs of lay people who wish to learn primary and secondary first aid skills. EFR courses are medically based, and follow the same priorities of care used by emergency medical providers, but provide training in a low stress, easy to understand format for the lay person. We also offer training in AEDs (automatic external defibrillators) and workplace first aid.
Courses conducted under the Emergency First Response banner are low-stress opportunities to learn, practice and apply basic life support and first aid skills, and encourage action.
Our current list of available courses include (click here for course schedule):
EFR Primary Care
The Emergency First Response Primary Care course covers emergency care for most life-threatening situations. This course is a CPR course that follows the protocols from the International Liaison Committee on Resuscitation (ILCOR), and focuses on maintaining the ABCD'S of primary care - Assess the Scene, Apply Barriers, Alert EMS, open the Airway, ensure Breathing, support Circulation/Chest Compressions, apply Debrillation, manage Serious Bleeding, manage Shock and manage Spinal Injuries. Our EFR Primary Course generally includes an optional skill in using an Automated External Debrillator (AED).
EFR Secondary Care
This course covers secondary patient assessment and first aid, allowing first responders to determine the extent of illness or injury in the event that the Emergency Medical Service (EMS) is delayed or unavailable. The first aid portion covers support and care for specific injuries and illnesses discovered during the secondary assessment phase, and prior to the arrival of the EMS.
Our EFR Primary and Secondary Care courses are generally combined into a single program. We also generally provide an orientation to the use of Automatic External Defibrillators (AEDs) as part of our program.
EFR Care for Children
This program teaches emergency care for injured or ill children and infants, allowing participant to learn, practice and apply basic emergency care skills in a non-stressful environment that encourages action.
EFR First Aid at Work
EFR First Aid at Work is an extensive program that covers primary and secondary care topics in greater detail. This course is specifically designed to meet the requirements of workplace health and safety training, and is an approved by various state OH&S bodies for that purpose, including Workcover NSW.
The EFR First Aid at Work course has been aligned with the Nationally Recognised Training unit of competency HLTFA301B (Apply First Aid), and a Statement of Attainment will be issued from the PADI Asia Pacific RTO upon successful completion of the program.
The EFR First Aid at Work course requires renewal every three (3) years, with annual refreshment of CPR skills recommended.
EFR CPR&AED
This is a program that specifically covers the first three links of the chain of survival - early activation of EMS, early provision of CPR and early defibrillation. Conducted over as little as 2-3 hours, this program is the perfect option for annual renewal of CPR skills, as required in many Australian workplaces, and under Australian Resuscitation Council guidelines.
